End Of Summer Catch-up

I'm way behind on blogging as usual.  School has started and I still need to finish up summer.  Luckily, nothing too crazy happened, so this should be short and sweet.  This summer was good, but kind of different.  We ended up doing things we didn't plan on, and not doing things we did plan on.  We only went camping once, which makes me sad, but that's what happens when you're crazy busy and sell the trailer.  Summer ended with us not being able to do a few things we'd planned on, so it was kind of quiet.  So, needless to say, the kids and I were all more than ready for school to start.  Really though, I love that when school ends we're all ready and excited for summer.  And when summer ends, I love that they're excited for school.  Life would be much harder if my kids hated school.

Anyway, I digress.  Here are a bunch of pictures from the end of summer.

Kate the Great turned 12.  Crazy!

Zack is on the high school mountain bike team so he spent a lot of time in his biking clothes

Sometimes heavy hang over gets scary

Kate requested a simple lemon cake.  Bless her

I got a new mountain bike!  Now I don't need to be embarrassed out on the trails.  I'm LOVING this bike:)

This bat was on our house.  Yuck!  But cool that it matched the wood.

Sage turned 9!  This is her BFF Kami who spent the entire day with us.

I may have purchased a huge Costco cake because I just couldn't bring myself to decorate a cake for Sage.  Apparently that stage of life has passed.  Sorry Sage.

We spent a lot of time working on our pond.  A lot.  That's a whole separate post, but here's a picture of the first rocks to go in!

We made it up to Bear Lake with the Higleys for less than 24 hours

We did manage to find time for shakes.

Zack getting ready for his very first mountain bike race.

Coming across the finish line.  He was tired, but he did a great job!

Post race.  Tired, dirty, and happy! (his face just doesn't show it)

Seattle Part 2

I better write about the rest of our trip before I forget!  On Saturday we went to Big Rock Park and then Pine Lake where we had great fun.  While we did that Jake rented a mountain bike and went on his all-time favorite ride.  For reals.  Just another reason he loved Seattle.  We all met up that afternoon and headed out on Lake Sammamish for some boating fun.  Mel's friends were super nice to take us all out.  Way back in the day we had a boat, but so long ago that the kids hardly remember it.  After I wake boarded Sage said, "Mom I didn't know you could do that!"  Obviously it's been too long.  The lake was beautiful and we all had a lot of fun.  So much fun that we're now looking at getting our own boat.  Hooray!

On Sunday we followed church up with a hike-a-walk to Snoqualmie Falls.  Of course, beautiful, but also full of people.  Monday morning we headed back to Seattle to kayak on Lake Union.  This was so great!  We were right by all the big buildings, huge yachts, and lots of sea planes.  In fact, one sea plane took off so close to Sage and I that we thought we were going to die.  Very exciting!  The afternoon was spent at Pine Lake for the win.  Gotta love that place.

Sadly, we had to leave Tuesday.  But before we left paradise Jake and Zack and I went on a hike with Randy.  It was a good 7 mile hike to Mason Lake.  So beautiful with amazing views of Mount Rainier.  We didn't enjoy the lake for too long because the mosquitoes were so bad we thought they were going to pick us up and carry us away.  But other than that we had a great time.  We ended our stay with a stop at Triple X for the biggest, best root beer floats ever.  And onion rings.  I didn't want to move ever again.  Zack was in heaven and finished a whole one himself.  Crazy!

The kids climbed through this nasty culvert at the park.

Pine Lake!

Cute Henry!

Look how many kids were on this boat!

Hanging with Henry

He didn't like it when I put these on, but then he was just chilling.  Pretty funny.
