New York Part 2

We happened to be in NYC on Palm Sunday, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to take the girls to a different church to see what they do.  We went to a catholic church a few blocks away.  They lit incense, sprinkled holy water on us, and then we got to do a procession to our seats.  Then we listened to the liturgy (I think that's what it's called).  This was cool, but also long.  Probably not the girls' favorite part of the trip, but I thought it was a good experience.

We rode bikes in Central Park.  We loved not walking for a second.  Central Park is so pretty and fun to see.  Our last day in the city we went to the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the 9/11 museum.  All of which was super cool to see.  Sage walked out of the 9/11 museum and was like, "wo, that was heavy."  Yes.  But she actually enjoyed this museum, so that's a win.

Our last night in the city we experienced the prom dress miracle.  Kate got asked to prom the first day of our trip.  We were going to get home less than a week before prom.  Needless to say, I was a bit stressed about how we were going to find a dress.  In the back of my mind I wondered about getting one in NY, but so far we'd seen nothing.  We decided to go to a yummy burger place for dinner.  On the way we passed Macey's and Kate and I were like, wait a second.  They might have prom dresses.  We ate dinner and went back to check it out.  They had so many prom dresses.  It was amazing.  Kate was able to try a ton on and figure out what she liked.  We ended up getting it shipped to our house so it was waiting for us when we got home.  The only alterations it needed was raising the hem.  Easy peasy.  We were so grateful to find the dress, and how fun to find it in NYC!  Sage was like, "can we come here for my prom dresses?"  No Sage.  No we cannot.

We went to the top of Summit One Vanderbilt.  Sage loved it, Kate was terrified.

New York Part One

I had a crazy idea last year.  Dad and Kathy are in Buffalo, by Niagara Falls and Palmyra.  Jake will probably never willingly go to those places, so what if I take the girls to NYC and then to see Dad and Kathy in Buffalo?  I thought about it, ran it past Jake, told the girls, and we made it happen!  It was one of those trips that I thought about for a long time in advance.  It felt like it would never get here, and now it's crazy that it's over.

Going to NYC is not a relaxing vacation.  There are so many fun things to see, and by the end of every day we were exhausted.  It was awesome.  Really everything went amazingly well, other than the flight there.  To make a long story short: we boarded our plane to leave at 10:30pm.  After we got on the plane they told us there was a mechanical problem.  We didn't end up flying out until 2:00am.  Needless to say we missed our connecting flight.  Luckily it wasn't too hard to arrange another flight.  So we got there, just 6 hours later than we were supposed to.  And we were real exhausted.  I think we were asleep by 8:30 that night.

Our first morning there we went to the Natural History Museum.  Sage's favorite stop (not really, she hated every minute).  I thought it was cool, but in true Spjute fashion we made it through in a couple of hours.  I can't handle long museum visits.  That night we went to Harry Potter.  It was really good.  The special effects were amazing.

Day two we started off at the Brooklyn Bridge.  We picked a great time to go because it was a bit rainy so no one else was there.  Last time I went it was packed with people.  I believe we hit 5th avenue that afternoon.  We spent more time there than I would have liked.  Sage was in her element.  We went to the Nike store three different times.  I took lots of deep breaths.  That night we went to Wicked.  It's been a few years since I saw it and I forgot how great it is.  Both of my girls loved it too.  Such a good show.

How we all felt when we finally made it to Boston.

We made it!

One of our first stops to the Cake Boss store.  We used to watch the show so the girls were excited.

We stopped here way too many times.

This was probably Sage's favorite part of the trip.  Thus going there 3 times.

Kate got asked to prom the day after we left.  Due to time constraints, she answered him with this picture saying, "It will rock to go to prom with you!"  Desperate times...

First time on the subway

I had to get a pic of them next to the Lego Friends.  They spent lots of time with those back in the day.

Waiting to go in for Wicked.
