May Happenings

Now that we're almost to August, I figure I should post about May.  There were a few things that happened that I didn't want to miss.  May is always a busy month.  Like busier than December, but I think this May was the busiest I ever remember.  It felt like I could barely catch my breath.  We somehow fit Hilton Head, Cedar and Bryce, and Lake Powell all in one month.  Plus all of the other end of school things that happen.  We had a lot of fun, but it was crazy.

I want to make sure I document that I quit my job at the Heber Hospital.  My kids were pretty shocked when I told them.  I worked there for 13 years, so they don't ever remember me not working there.  I wasn't really thinking about quitting, but we got a new manager who was requiring more and more weekend shifts.  When I looked at my schedule for the summer I was going to be working almost every weekend.  With Jake's job, weekends are the only times we can get away.  It seemed crazy to not be able to do things as a family all summer just because of a job I didn't need.  So I gave my 2 weeks notice.  My last day was Mother's Day.  I definitely miss the people I worked with.  I made a lot of good friends who I don't see anymore.  But it's also been really nice to not have to worry about my work schedule in the middle of everything else.  I don't know how I could have added work to the craziness of this summer.  And it's been really nice to not have to work night shifts.  My body is definitely happier.  I'm grateful that Jake supported me in putting our family first.  And that he makes it so I don't have to work.  We'll see what my next adventures as a nurse will bring.

In May I was able to take some of the young men and young women to the temple to do baptisms.  It was so nice to be back.  And I have to say that having an appointment was amazing.  Usually we have to wait for hours to do baptisms.  I was happy to have the girls there with me.  If I have to be young women's president then I'm glad I at least get to do it with Kate and Sage.

Sage had her Lagoon competition and her dance recital.  Her group did a great job and got first place.  Sage and her friend Kami were begging to be able to go on rides while we were at Lagoon for dance.  I gave them a firm No.  But then when we were walking in some people randomly stopped them and gave them two tickets to be able to go on rides.  They were so excited.  I was ok with it too.  Got me out of having to pay for them to go later.

Kate made it in the honor's society for her grade.  Unfortunately, we were in Hilton Head for the celebration, so Grandma and Grandpa came up and took her.  They also took my kids to dinner.  They were so excited.

In case you're wondering what Zack was doing in May....he was doing homework.  As always, he somehow leaves most of his work to be done at the very end of the term.  So he spends the last few weeks doing homework non-stop.  I've talked to him about how this doesn't work very well.  If you know Zack you won't be surprised that he doesn't listen.  So every single term he does the same thing.  And it's always in the classes he hates:  english, history, government, etc.  The classes most people struggle with, like calculus and chemistry, he's caught up in and gets A's.  It makes me crazy.  I can't wait until he's in college just taking engineering classes (assuming he makes it to college that is).

We made it back to the temple!

We had to take the boat out before we went to Powell to make sure it worked.  It was freezing.  We were literally the only boat on the lake.

Sage and I went on a hike in Cedar

This is just to show that once in awhile I make good food.  I mean it's rare enough that I took a picture.  But still...

We probably get weird looks with all of this getting pulled behind a Jeep.
